Comments about Behringer MIC100 -Tube Ultragain Mic Preamp:
I've been playing & performing [off-and-on]for over thirty years. However I am new to home recording, which is why i describe myself as a novice and purchased this unit. I have a TASCAM Digital Portastudio DP01FX that does not have a very good mic pre-amp built in. I got the Behringer MIC100-Tube Ultragain Mic Preamp to use in my home recordings. It performs well, I like it because it is simple, straightforward and does what it is supposed to do without alot of BS. It boosts the mic input into the recorder just fine and, as i am discovering, the better the overall input when recording the less you have to fool-around in editing. So, as i am not a pro at this, i cannot give it a "perfect" score, but it seems to me if you are a novice/intermeditate with electronics, you would be well-served by this unit. I like Behringer and also purchased their Ultracoustic AT108 amplifier [which i really really like as a practice amp--haven't gigged with it yet]. I mention that because as an experiement, i paired the Behringer MIC100-Tube Ultragain Mic Preamp with the AT108 and found that the pre-amp was uneccessary--it seemed to overwhelm the little amplifier. The AT108 is perfect as is, didn't need help from the pre-amp. So i don't use them together. The pre-amp has only one channel, so you'll only be able to run one line into it, however you can run two lines out--so you could hook it into your own amp and a PA if necessary. All-in-all i'm glad i bought it.
