While some multitrack recorder die hards simply refuse to connect any instrument they own to any of these newfangled "computers" that everyone talks about, the Zoom R16 looks to remedy this. This new multitrack can handle up to eight simultaneous tracks, and it's loaded with features that take computer connectivity to a new extreme. For one, if you don't want to record to SD, as is possible with this unit, just hook it up and use it as an interface. It also acts as a control surface once you've got your tracks tracked and transferred.

Sweet unit - Nice price - about time!!!

Advertised battery life = 4.5 hrs record time
Actual battery life = 45 min record time

45 min session using 2 ch (stero linked) = 466Mb WAV - Throw away the 1 Gb SD that comes with the unit - or use it in your D-camera - get something that will let you record the music you're playing.

Linking to the computer as USB stroge is EASY.
Linking to the computer as a controller for DAW usage is... daunting & frustrating.
Installing the Cubase LE4 software... Fairly simple ... activating it is a PAIN.

I'm using this unit as a recording/mixer - this allows me to create custom CD tracks for band members to entice them to practice between rehearsals. Basically recording each instrument & vocal during a standard rehearsal - make each band member a CD of songs - with thier tracks missing.
