This is the second Nesco Gardenmaster FD-1010 dehydrator I have purchased. With my prior one, it lasted me over 8 years of use making beef jerky for friends, family, coworkers and many of bands that pass through Seattle while playing at the Tractor Tavern. My prior Gardenmaster would dry 16 trays of thick cut marinaded beef in about 10 hours time. This model's capacity is 30 trays, it comes with 4 trays, so I would suggest buying more trays. I had two prior dehydrators before buying my first gardenmaster and there is not another dehydrator I would buy other than this model. I've also have used it to dry fruits and veggies, but I would rather pizz off PETA by getting rid of the cows that create methane gas and eat veggies that produce oxygen.

I got my first FD-1010 approximately 20 years ago, and it served me well. I would imagine I made jerky out of approximately 120-150 deer and maybe 1000 wet pounds of beef jerky in my first one...maybe more. My first one finally conked out around Christmas and I had to order a new one. I wanted the same model, as the first one was great and I had 20 racks for it, which aren't cheap. Now I have 24 racks, and use them all when I go to making jerky. You can stack up to 30 racks, although I've never done that but have been happy with using all 24 that I have. It's a great product for the price.
Those trays can be a little difficult to get that marinade off of them once it's dried on there, I don't care what they tell you, plus it's a helluva mess to clean them at home. I take them to the car wash and stick them in a plastic garbage back after they're washed, then take them home and soap them up and rinse them off. The car wash works GREAT! If you have a high pressure washer at home, it would work equally as well. Only way to fly, and you'll enjoy using the product a lot more since you can clean those trays off hassle free.
Don't know that I'll get as many years out of this one, but the first one sure was great! If I had done a better job of keeping pepper and dripping marinade from the air vents around the outside of the base and keeping that stuff from dripping down on the fan when I was loading it I'd probably still be using that first unit, although the paint did finally start flaking on it pretty bad the last couple of years and it began to rust a little. I just wiped it down with vegetable oil and kept on truckin. LOL When the fan finally quit, I had no choice but to get a new one.
It IS a little noisy, but I dry all my stuff in the garage so it's not a problem. My family smelled so much jerky drying they got sick of smelling it, although they kept eating it. LOL
Ginny likes to do banannas, kiwi and strawberries in it. Seems to me the fruits take longer than drying meat, but that's her department.
EXCELLENT PRODUCT!!! I highly recommend it!
