both knives are excellent. 8 inch french is the most used knife in the kitchen. parer comes in a close second. get a narrow blade boning knife, and you have a basic set. henckels is the best quality for the price. the price at abe's was great, though the msrp is a joke. the towels are nice, but not worth more than a few dollars each. i paid about forty per cent of the msrp, but abe's was out of stock of the set i originally ordered, so they gave me a better deal due to back order and their mess-up. they did a nice job fixing their error. though you can wash in dishwasher, best to clean by hand or they will dull prematurely from banging around in d/w.
