Comments about Samsung PN50C8000 50" Plasma TV ATSC - NTSC - HDTV 1080p - 16:9 - 1920 x 1080 - 1080p - Surround:

This is a great TV, but it does take time to configure and fine tune all the settings. Be aware that each input has all it's own picture settings and require calibrating. While this is nice, I would like to see an option to copy the settings from one input to another.Take your time and either calibrate it on your own, have it professionally calibrated (expensive and don't use an in store service like [...]) or read the various forums like [@] and [@] to get detailed recommended settings. Each person and environment will need a little tweaking, but it's worth it. From my experience, the out of box settings on this unit, unless you are using BD-Wise from a Bluray player, are not good so don't expect to unpack this thing and have the best picture and color immediately. But with 15 minutes of punching buttons on the remote, you can enter the recommended settings from the places I noted above and be off to a REALLY great viewing experience.Others have noted in similar reviews that the sound from the built in speakers was not good. I disagree. I happen to have mine setup to a 7.1ch pioneer unit, but because it's an older sound system, I find myself using the built in speakers when surround sound isn't needed. Also, note I DO NOT give 5 star reviews unless the product is essentially perfect. That will never be the case in the world we currently live in because every manufacturer holds back features and fixes to force consumers to continually buy new. My last tv, a Sony VEGA flat screen 200lbs behemoth was/still is a great tv that I have enjoyed for over 15 years. I don't plan on buying another new tv for at least another 15 years, so it would be nice to see Samsung continue to offer updates for this unit and maintain the internet apps, etc. But truth is Samsung has a history of leaving behind their old models, so I would expect them to forget about this once the 2011 models come out. But that wouldn't stop me from buying another one, in fact I did and gave it to my parents. The set is very light, unbelievably thin and sleek looking (both when off and on.) No ridiculous LEDs or lit up branding. The TINY red light that lets you know it's in standby is the only light and you can not see it unless you get real close or the room is dark. That's the way to build a tv, thank you Samsung. The base is sturdy and unobtrusive. Inputs are easy to use and access from the side and below, allowing the unit to be mounted VERY close to the wall. It's obvious they put some consumer oriented thought into this tv and not just the techies that designed it.My only gripe about the inputs would be 4 full high speed hdmi inputs would be nice, but you only get two of them as the other two are intended for specific uses (one is dvi and I forget what the other is.) It would be great to be able to use ethernet over hdmi instead of a cat 5e/6 cable. Along those same lines, built-in wifi should be standard on high end sets like this, but is not for this one. Also note that they do not include any 3D glasses with the tv. I think this is marketing mistake which I expect they will correct for their 2011 models in order to keep up with Panasonic and others that will be joining them in that field.Speaking of 3D, the 2D-->3D actually works. It's not perfect, but is quite impressive. 3D movies have been a pleasure to watch, I can't say the same for baseball, but then again, they have only aired a couple of games and need to work out the details. Too bad this years playoffs and world series aren't being broadcasted in 3D (Verizon FiOS, take note... We want more 3D content (movies, baseball, tennis... Could care less about American football and basketball, but hockey would be cool and football also, but you need to do something about the awful sound from football games, European fans are too loud;)..)

Amazing TV. Looks great mounted on the wall. Amazing picture quality, in 3D and 2D.

There's one TV with slightly better picture quality, but it's a lot thicker than this one and lacks some features. So if you want something that looks, and feels slick. You can't go wrong with this TV.
