This very low profile TV looks great in my living room. Even the wife has grown to love it. This is the best TV for the money. There are higher tech TV's out there but my eyes would not know the difference. I do not know how I lived so long with out HD.

While the picture quality is quite nice, three negatives tarnish the overall review. First, the built in speaker sound quality is marginal at best. Second, the menu interface is FUNKY and takes some getting used to, but the WORST problem (for me) is that the audio line out IS NOT CONTROLLED BY THE REMOTE. Meaning, if you use an older preamp/amp or receiver to power external speakers, you CANNOT adjust the volume or muting using Samsung's remote (unless you buy a Samsung surround sound set up, of course). This requires the user to purchase a modern receiver or surround sound with its own remote so the user can have mutable, adjustable volume. I found this ridiculous.

This is a beautiful tv which I bought for the reliability of the Samsung brand. I would recommend it to anyone.I could go on and on about the things I like about it, but you can pretty much just trust the feature list that describes this tv.So instead, I'll just comment on a couple of pet peeves I've found. The tv has a DVI input, but it converts the DVI into HDMI first. I found that certain (cheap) DVI cards that you can buy for your PC don't play well with it. My theory is that it's sending a sound signal through the wire even though DVI doesn't support that in the spec and that confuses the tv to turn off the sound port that goes with the DVI/HDMI port. But when I switched from a cheap $80 sound card to a slightly less-cheap $120 one, it worked fine. All-in-all, it is a good idea to have a extra DVI/HDMI port to allow for more flexibility. The second thing I find a little lacking is the Picture-In-Picture feature. The PiP feature only lets you view the television signal through the coaxial port. So I can tune it to my PC input and watch SD tv. But I cannot tune it to my PC input and watch HD tv, or dvd, or bluray or any other HDMI input. Right now, I only have SD television from my sattelite provider but if I ever upgrade to HD content and that pipes into the HDMI port, then I basically lose this PiP feature. I don't know if there is some technical reason for why they can't do PiP with 2 high quality signals or if PiP was just a poorly implemented after-thought.other then these 2 things, I love my TV![...]

I relaize that my videophiles don't give much weight to Consumer's Reports reviews. However, I was very pleasantly surprised with the excellent picture quality for the $ in this recently top rated Samsung LCD. The 46" size is a perfect balance for value without paying twice as much for a 50". I would highly recommend this model that Abe's offered at a very competitive price.

Being in the IT and Electronics field I have put the TV though a gauntlet of my personal test.
Just purchased my third Samsung LN46A550 I love the 5 Series from Samsung.
First I sat it on my computer desk connected it from my DVI digital output and flip connection input to the TV as HDMI. It was clear and BRIGHT! I checked the default back light setting and it came set at 7 I turned it down to 5 and it was great with no color bleeding or pixilation. Played a couple of games with it and no problems of ghost images. For the test I used an Nvidia GeForce Hybrid SLI.
Since HDMI cables carry video and audio signal I wanted to see if I could get it to play audio from my sound card using a HDMI for video and then taking a mini 1/8” stereo out and flipping the connector to RCA on the end that plugs into the TV. From the quick setup guide Samsung had with the TV it said to use HDMI input two and plug into the RCA jacks for DVI in and it work just like they said.
Next it was onto using my laptop as the input source, once again used the DVI out from the laptop and flipped it going into the TV as a n HDMI no problem with the picture even thought it was a lower quality video card. I also tried VGA out from the laptop and VGA input to the TV and it still looked great.
I moved onto mounting and on the wall and running all the cables I needed and then back to the work of testing.
Connected the TV to the HD-DVR and the quality of the picture blew me away along with the sound quality was greatly improved.
On to the Blue Ray testing even better picture and sound I watched Transformers , the Transporter and never had a problem with display refreshing , bleeding or ghosting.
I then tried using the Wiselink on the side of the TV by plugging in a flash drive with pictures on it and started a slide show and it work very good.
Just purchased my third Samsung LN46A550 I love the 5 Series from Samsung and it gets my stamp of approval. A great value for the price kudos to Samsung.

I replaced a 32" Sharp Aquos with the Samsung and couldn't be happier with the picture quality. The 46" size is perfect in my samll living room and makes viewing movies and HDTV a real joy. The positive reviews I've seen elsewhere are right on target.

I use my Samsung to Watch movies, play games on the Xbox 360,watch sports. I love the picture quality is absolutely stunning in High def. Only downside would have to be the sound it produces. But I'm going to be purchasing a sound bar anyways, so should not be an issue.

This set is fantastic for the price! The colors are vivid and the blacks are BLACK, not grey like many other LCDs I've looked at. Hi-Def looks phenomenal and Standard-Def isn't too shabby either. Throw in a Blu-Ray and you'll be amazed. Great purchase!

This is a unit that deserves its excellent reputation. Even with non-HD programming, the image is relatively sharp and easy to watch with regular satellite content or DVDs. Its frame does not intrude. There are enough connections for peripherals including speakers and a PC. [...] A somewhat awkward "universal" control and poor sound quality (a problem with many current slim TV sets before adding external speakers) were the only observable limitations of this product. I would be pleased to have a second identical LCD TV.

Purchased this TV for Mom to replace an older rear projection model. She wasn't too keen on accepting new technology, but now that it's installed she says she can't get over how clear and bright this new picture is. Mom's no technophile, but is seemingly doing fine and dandy with all the new buttons. I still feel that the picture needs a little more tweaking, but overall this is a great TV at an excellent price from Abe's.

Using in my bedroom and really enjoy it. Great picture, almost too bright (just light-wise, not in whites) for an extremely dark room, but there are settings to help take care of that. Really enjoy the TV - watched both shows and movies. Standard definition is just ok, but not any worse than on any other TV of this size that I've seen.

This was a big step up for us, so we might be slightly less picky than some. Nevertheless, the picture is great, even though we haven't upgraded yet to HD television channels. Even old VCS tapes look good. We already were running the sound output through speakers, so that isn't an issue for us. However, the sound from the tv itself isn't as bad as some reviewers have implied--and I can get picky with speakers for my music.

I had connect my DigiCam directly to the usb port. It was great watching the pictures on the bigger screen. I only bad about this USB is that it will not play any videos. I dont have a Blueray player, but DVD collection looks great with the upconverting HDMI dvd player. I may not buy a Blueray player in near future. Even Picture in picture is really helpful for watching movies and sports at the same time so that i need not fight with my girl friend to change the channel. On the whole its a great TV for the money.

Factory settings for the picture were poor. Went on-line and found other user settings for the picture and it made a huge difference. With out these changes would have been upset at the resolution and picture quality. The picture does blur a little with high speed objects such as sports, auto racing, but it is really not to bad. All LCD's have this problem though they are getting closer to plasmas in this respect. I don't believe stepping up to the samsung 6 series would be worth it for the price. Overall I love it, and it is a good value!

This Samsung is great. The color are bright and very easy setup. I have it in the living room mounted on the walls. The remote is super cool, it light up in the dark is you are watching a movie. The sound could be a little better.

I was very pleased with the ease of setup and quality of the picture. I'm new to HD and large TVs. I put my time in doing the research and feel this is a great TV at a very good price.

Only downside is the sound quality - definitely needs a home theater system or similar.

LCD? PLASMA? DLP? My father said LCD, so that's why I bought the Samsung LN46A550. Its competitive price at Abe's of Maine and quality were enough to hook, line and sink me into buying this quality TV. I have yet to install HD in the house, however within a week I'll be watching sports, movies and news with this product. I am pleased at the design of this TV. The weight also was lighter than expected and consumes less energy than my last CRT. On a side note, for someone who is not as sophisticated as some, I was afraid of using the remote control as well as going into the menu scree. However I was surprised at the simple interface this TV has. Samsung has done a wonderful job!

Picture on TV is great and its easy to set up right out of the box. Sound quality is poor as others have noted. I turned on the surround sound option and adjusted the equalizer which made it better, however it still isn't that good and more often than not I turn off the sound and use the stereo speakers instead. I'm considering making sound diverters to put under the speakers to turn the sound so its facing forwards instead of pointing down. [...]

This TV has been absolutely outstanding. It looks very sharp mounted on the wall. I am impressed with the standard def picture, but HD looks incredible. I researched LCDs for a couple years before I finally settled on Samsung over Sony and Sharp because of other reviews I had read. I watch lots of sports and movies and, in my opinion, it is the best flat panel LCD available for the price. I really haven't found anything bad to say about it yet after having purchased it roughly 4 months ago.

The TV rocks! Great contrast ratio, great brightness and clarity. It blew away the Sonys that were on a huge display, including 120hz machines. Abes was 400 less than retail!! product came quick with no damage. I am very pleaseed with the TV and Abes!!

This television is absolutely wonderful. The picture is amazing, the sound is spectacular. Althouhg it is a 46inch, it appears to be much larger. The images on the screen in HD appear to come at you. I am extremely impressed!

NO one tells you these big screens give off heat. be careful of the room size you put it in. Otherwise it is a remarkable item, especially if you hook it up to a home theatre.

Installed it in my bedroom. Had to have the HDMI port(s) replaced right away. Still a little quirky at times...needs to be turned on and off sometimes as no picture. Also, cannot seem to choose to display regular res or high res. It's either full screen or 4:3, my choice, not the TV's. Samsung Tech-support no help, downright unfriendly.
Very poor quality speakers (maybe because they are in the back, very small and too close to the wall on the mount?
