If money was no object I would have gotten the Pioneer Kuro. In side by side comparisons to the Panasonics the Pioneer's color is a bit better. However, the difference in performance is not worth the difference in price to me. Actually, for my viewing distance (13ft) 720p was the way to go. You can't discern the difference with 1080p at that distance..not even close. Most people are probably better off with 720p and it's a shame that the manufacturers are phasing them out. I have a relatively bright viewing room with windows behind the viewing position. With the anti-reflective coating on the plasma and a tilt mount the reflections are not really noticed in the daytime unless I focus on them. At night, the plasma blows away lcd. I can't really understand why the lcd has become so popular.[...]

This is a great tv for the price. I bought a HD antenna at Walmart and I have about 10 channels with 5 in HD. It is funny, but the 1080p channels look noticeably better than the 720p, even though this is a 720p TV. It was super easy to setup and the remote is very straightforward. Excellent buy for under $1000. I have yet to watch an HD movie on it, but I don't see a noticeable difference between an 1080p and this TV. I do see a tiny bit of shadows in high speed motion shows like sports, but it is really not very noticeable. The only way to get rid of that is with 120Hz and those sets are way out of reach right now.

[...] Initially I assembled it on a sturdy magazine table using the pedestals provided. I'm an able guy and was able to lift and lower the TV onto the pedestal myself. I eventually plan to wall mount it but this game me a chance to connect the wires and see how things worked; I'm glad I did it this way. Initially I hooked up the TV using an RCS audio cables/S-video cord to my cable box. This gave me an OK picture, but I didn't understand at the time why it wasn't a high def full screen picture - either the 4:3 worked, or Zoom worked but edges were cut off. I then bought an HDMI cable, and WOW - you GOTTA use one for this TV! Now the format is perfect and the picture is PHENOMENAL! Watching HD NFL games is even better than on my Toshiba 50" rear projector TV (which my son has now inherited!). The sound system in the TV is OK, but I bought a Panasonic surround sound system and attached it, and the sound is MUCH better. DVDs are thrilling! (use an HDMI cable DVD to TV as well). There is nothing wrong with the color on this unit, or the resolution. It looks every bit as good as any demonstration at a dealer. I did grab some recommended settings from CNET and other users for custom settings, but I eventually tweaked some for my liking - very easy to do. You can pay lots more for higher up models, but why? This TV is dah bomb!

Bought this set as a secondary unit for our rec room. Mostly viewed are off-air HD broadcast programs. So,720p is adequate resolution for our needs. Typical high-quality Panasonic product. This seems to be one of their lower-end sets. However, there are plenty of connections for any home theater application. The only thing lacking is program listing for off-air viewing which is common for most HD sets.

About every 7 years I purchase a new television and they have all cost one thousand dollars. Let me tell you this is the best thousand I have ever spent. The picture is phenomenal both on HD cable and Bluray. The picture is more clear and defined than reality.

Abs of Maine is the best place to buy a TV.Great size for the price and entry level HDDI, but wish I would have paid the extra ouple of hundred dollars for the 800 series.

720p is perfectly adequate for this size screen (50"), although a larger screen would probably benefit from 1020p. when broadcasters get to that.

One problem: The internal software uses a version of Linux and occasionally loses the captions on some subchannels of broadcast HD interim channels. For me they are in the Channel 70 range.

First off once again Panasonic shows why they make the best plasma on the market. This Tv is not a full 1080p, but at 50 inches you cant really tell the difference. I have a 58 inch 1080p and the pictures are so similar it seems silly to try and justify the extra cost at this time. Maybe when more 1080p sources are available this will be a concern but until then, this is the TV you want to buy!

We did alot of research before we purchased this product. We read alot of reviews as well as went to many retailer to get a good look at it in use.My son had bought a similar Tv and we were originally looking to purchase that same exact one.After comparing this to that one. We decided this was the one we wanted.We compared prices on many websites as well as many retailers we went to.I signed up for a online site that would alert me of different prices for this model when it was on sale so i recieved update every few days.After calling thecompany where I ended up purchasing it,I was so happy with their service each time I went with them.This particualr tv was easy to set up,easy to learn to use. We love it.We are not huge techno geeks,but my son is and he fine tuned it, so to speak for us and we love it.Its perfect and was right out of the box.We are addicted to HD now.We are looking for another and are almost positive we will go with the same brand again.I can't see any reason why we wouldn't.

[...] After 6 months no problems with this unit. I would buy this set again for sure. The only weak point is the sound quality, the small speakers tend to get buzzy at higher volumes and the bass can't be forced or distortion occurs. This set produces some of the deepest blacks i have seen on plasma so far.
