I set this up in my room, I have yet to mount it. The picture quality is the best. I've seen almost all of the top of the line 50" TV's and the only one that you could argue is better is the 5020 Pioneer Kuro... But that being said, the colors are definitely better on the Panasonic. The only thing that I liked better on the Kuro was the black levels and the beautiful design of the set.

Ok back to the Panasonic. It really is the best bang for your buck at the 50" range. I can't tell you how nice the picture is and how easy it is to set up. A retard could put this thing together and get the best quality picture... In fact, all you have to do is put the picture setting to THX... and bang, youre watching a THX certified, calibrated TV.

Buy this TV and buy it from Abe's! BTW, they were cool... no drama, limited upselling, and the TV came from NJ to CA in a week. Abe's is the best.

Bought this tv from Abe's (best price I found), picture is great, all my friends that have seen it say it is the best they have seen. Set up was easy, the THX setting is great. I found a couple of setting recommendations on [@] review. I'm using it with comast hd dvr. Had some problems with comcast getting the upgrade to HD but nothing to do with this tv. Be careful about finger prints. I put the tv in the stand by myself, had to get the fingerprints of the front glass, took a while to get them off. No problems with buying from Abes. Be aware you will get a phone call after you place your order where they will offer you upgraded shipping and deals on cables, surge protection, extended warranty. I did go for the shipping upgrade so they would bring it inside my apartment and help get it out of the box. Shipping was pretty fast.

This model is a perfect fit for my TiVo HD DVR, Sony BDP-S550 Blu-ray player, and STR-DA2400ES receiver. It is also very worthy of purchasing the HDMI v1.3 10.2 Gbps cables offered as to not create any loss of bandwith needed and enjoy all of its technologies.

The TV wonks were right about the great picture (rivaled only by Pioneer at $2K more), but they didn't say enough about the "hearability" of the set. Both my spouse's and my ears are bothered by the background noise in cable broadcasts, especially movies, to the point that we were used to raising the volume well beyond what was comfortable for, say, our adult children. NO MORE! I just decreased the base 10 units or so and the treble about 6 units and we are now listening and HEARING programs at a normal volume level.

This is our first big screen HDTV and we could not be happier with this decision. My home theater is finally complete! For years we have had surround sound, DVD, and game systems - now in incredible HD. We also added a Blu Ray player, again incredible. (I have also ordered a Harmony Universal remote to finally simplify all this stuff)When viewing TV's at the superstores, I was always apprehensive of picture quality. The displays never looked "great". Even this model. After upgrading to HD from Dish Network I am pleased to say the home experience is breathtaking. Perhaps the store signals are diminished because HBO and Starz at home are truly superb. Store comparisons are deceptive.Setup was very easy. We mounted the set on a media rack - the screen hangs from an upright as if it were hanging on a wall mount. When heaving the set, be aware there are handholds on the back side which make it a breeze to lift (with a partner). Picture setup was a snap. I used CNET recommendations for the THX picture mode. Menus are very intuitive. With inputs to spare, all our components are hooked up, most passing through our av receiver. Screen glare is not a problem. While being much bigger than our old 35" tube, the screen on this tv "catches" less daylight - perhaps due to a slight down angle on the mount. Our room is southern facing but the picture is bright even at midday. Seating in our room prohibits direct front-on viewing, however the angle is not a problem. This was a key when deciding Plasma over LCD. Off angle viewing of LCD was always a distraction for me. (We have been looking at TVs for a long time).Picture quality and color reproduction is great. It's gotta be to earn that THX badge. Plasma vs. LCD.Picture and color is the reason I got this set. Angle of view and natural picture reproduction is better on this Plasma. Glare and room brightness not a problem. Have seen no "image retention" - I did take care during the "break in period", just in case. The black depth is great, as good as my standard tube. Cost, a similar spec'd LCD will cost you much more. [...]To qualify the Power User: I have been researching tvs for years, have a full blown theater setup and dialed in to my exacting specs. Every video input is setup using advanced picture menus. I left out many specifics such as model #s, cabling etc because that stuff is boring and preferential.

Picture is second only only to the Pioneer Pro Elite which costs at least $1,000 more than the PZ800u. Set is the cornerstone of my Home Theater set up but I find the internal sound more than sufficient for "daily driving". THX mode provides great benchmark and fail safe for viewing but user can easily tweak for a personal preference. Like all plasmas anti-reflective coating can only do so much in bright conditions so placement and room conditions are key. The front HDMI and SDcard inputs make it easy to interface my notebook or input photocards for viewing. Considering the high number of features user controls are very friendly.Set arrived faster than I thought. No cognitive dissonance on this purchase.

Basic set up was quick and easy. Good points: Fabulous picture, even the standard def on analog channels was a great improvement. I don't have a Blu-Ray player yet, or even an up-converting player, but standard def DVDs are quite good. The THX picture setting seems to be just about right for most movies and TV shows.
The bad: not much, but the set up menu system for more advanced stuff is confusing, but that may just be me. Also I would have liked a coax PCM audio out. My very expensive, but a little out of date surround sound amp doesn't have HDMI. The optical out theoretically is not as good as coax.

Mounted this 50in bad boy in my bedroom and wow!! With the thx mode gameing and blue ray movies are off the scale. Started with an lcd at the same price. Man im glad i took it back and got this plasma. The only thing i can say negative is that the remote does not light up.

Mounted the TV on brick wall above my fireplace and it is outstanding. Picture is unbelievable and found settings easy to control. Used TXH settings but varied a few, per CNET review, to get the best picture for both day and night viewing. Couldn't be happier with this TV and can't imagine that any other higher priced TV would be worth it.

The TV has spectacular picture. The screen is beautiful, the "one pane of glass" design really makes for a nice looking TV hung on the wall. The anti-glare screen also minimizes the problem of too much light (that all plasmas have). I use this TV in day and night and performs excellent at all time.

This TV has an incredible picture right out of the box, but with a little tweaking of the default settings it looks next to perfect. The THX mode is definitely worth the extra money over the non THX models, especially if you intend to view 1080p content on this tv. The black levels are also very rich and deep and very close to those produced by the much pricier kuro. The new one-pane-of-glass design is also very attractive: mounted on a wall it looks like a piece of modern art. Overall I'm extremely satisfied with this TV and the picture looks great whether you're watching HDTV, standard DVD's, Blu-rays, or video games. My only suggestion is that if you intend to hook up multiple video game systems, to purchase the appropriate component (YPbPr) or HDMI cables for the systems, as the TH50PZ800U only has one RCA (red yellow white) connection in the rear. It has another one in the front but who wants cables dangling from the front of their new panny?

This TV is on 10+ hours a day. Sports, movies and wii are what's primarily watched. The picture is great, deep blacks, no artifacts, bright whites and realistic colors out of the box in THX mode. Reflections are minimal in my setup and the angle of view effect is not present at all, unlike the LCDs I was looking at. The value of this set from Abe's was incredible when comparing prices [...]

I did a lot of research before deciding on the TH50PZ800U. Tough choice between LCD and Plasma. I have a 40" SONY LCD that is beautiful, but this display is every bit as good. We use it for HD Sat as well as BluRay movies. It lives up to it's promise in every way. No complaints.

As close as you'll come to having a theater in your home. Blacks are truly black. DVD's have never looked more lifelike. The remote has limitations namely it can't control a Receiver but I use a Harmony remote which handles everything.

I bought this TV because of the brand reputation. Also, I live at high altitude and know Panasonic plasmas work great. Beautiful picture in all modes. The only complaints I have is the Menu system and remote functions. Menu system is fairly basic and lacks any advanced color control features. The remote lacks any picture mode buttons. You must enter the TV menu to switch between preset picture (color) modes. Also lacks a closed caption button, also only accessible from the setup menu. Annoying issues for a TV of this quality. Speakers are just so-so but most users, like myself, just run all audio through a home entertainment system.

Great product. According to other reviews, plasma is better for action. I just need to make sure I don't pause my game and work away (to prevent the screen burn in). The TV also has an internal screen saver in case if the signal is not changed for a while but I don't want to potentially ruin my TB screen to try it. Also, the review says the TV has a very good power consumption compared with other plasma TVs.

I have this TV in my livingroom. Because of the sleek black design it looks elegant and doesn't overpower the room. I don't have it hooked up to a home theater system. I use the built-in speakers and they're just fine, even with a DVD. Blu-ray and HD broadcasts are flawless. I recommend the settings described in the CNET review, especially for THX.

I was hesitant about ordering such a large item online, but Abe's price was the best and delivery was seamless. The Panasonic Viera was everything I hoped it would be and more. Picture quality is fantastic right out of the box. What made it even better was that the tv found the local broadcast stations and I have not hooked up any antenna. Free HD TV. It was easy to assemble the stand for the tv, but you will probably need two people to slide the flat screen part onto the prongs of the stand.

This TV looks amazing. I did a lot of research, went to stores and did comparisons, etc. I am overjoyed with the picture. When I got the 50" into my living room it looked a bit big. Mind you I had 18" Magnavox before. After wall mounting it with a friend I'd say it's perfect. Now I mentioned the screen being delicate. This is true. The antireflective coating is soft and easily damaged. Be careful at all times with it. My cat, Billy Jack, took one swipe at his reflection and left a scratch. This was within a week. Fortunately you can tell when the tv is on. I've seen one day deals on this model for [$], got mine for [$]. Can't go wrong with this one.

I thoroughly research things before making a purchase, especially something like a HDTV that will last many, many years of use. I started by looking at Samsung LCD's but after reading about the benefits of plasma and the terrific quality and value of Panasonic plasmas, it was worth spending money for this HDTV. I especially appreciate the reviews by CNET and they rated this as the second best 50" HDTV, between Pioneer and Sony units that were much more expensive.
Now that I have the TV in my home, it looks great with the all-glass front (others with plastic bezels look cheap) and it is easy to operate. The picture is amazing, even when very close to the screen. It was nice also to know that by purchasing this "THX" certified TV I didn't need to bother with new TV calibration. We've been playing a lot of PS3 video games and watching movies and there have been zero burn-in effects. The SD card slot is pretty cool also, to view pictures slide show style. The remote has great controls, including the ability to easily check the resolution and to remove letter bars on movies. The research paid off; this HDTV is really excellent. Friends are buying the same one.

For light room viewing use Custom mode with "Picture" setting set to 50-60 for a picture just as accurate, but slightly brighter.

This is what HI DEF is all about. I waited to get a flat screen until the change to HD in 2009. This unit plus the panasonic BluRay player is beyond incredible. I just watched 2001 a Space Odyssey on BluRay. I could not get over how dynamic this presentation was. More impactful than seeing it at the Theatre. KUDOS to Panasonic.

The only problem with the TV was the VIERA-Link. I tried to use it with a Panasonic Home Theatre SC-PTX7 and it wouldn't allow some of the important functions. Otherwise a great product.

I watch DVDs and play games PS3 and Wii on this set it is very nice. Set up was easy I bought a Blu-Ray high def set up dvd spent about 2 of the most boring hours of my life only to get to the test patterns and realize the set was shipped with a great set up only choice I made was Home vs Store, I chose home.
Fantastic picture, I haven't used the tuners or sound as I don't have an antenna or satellite hooked up and run the sound through my AV amp.

The TV was easy to setup and use and because of some good reviews I was not nervous about the purchase. The only negative thing isn't specific to this TV. It is very focused on HDMI equipment and that's what the majority of inputs are for, but if you have multiple older analog devices you have a bit more difficulty in setup. But that will be less of a problem as I upgrade my other components.

Traded up from my 42" Panasonic plasma to the 50" Panasonic. Many new features from just a few years ago. The HDMI connections make it a snap to connect to the amplifier, cable box, and DVD player. I had a little problem getting the picture adjusted. The built-in picture settings could be better for customizing the picture quality.

My main gripe about most new expensive televisions is that they have to be professionally calibrated, adding about another $350 on to the cost of your original purchase price. This Panasonic is THX certified meaning it shouldn't need this additional calibration. And guess what - it works. I'm a demanding videophile (with some cost sensibility)and this set has met my demands right out of the box.My previous 50" TV was a Samsung and it had a great picture after calibration (again, an additional $350). A main board died on the set after 18 months (out of warranty) and cost $650 to repair. Samsung service was awful to deal with. I purchased the Samy over the Panasonic at that time because the Samy had a better picture. That's no longer the case.Panasonic Plasma TVs have a special Plasma Concierge Priority Service number to call if you ever have any questions or problems with their sets, but I'm expecting this set to last much longer than my Samsung.[...]

I first wanted an LCD due to the large amount of light in my living room. However, Panasonic does a great job with anti-reflection techonology that puts this TV above all the LCDs I looked at including [...]. I choose this model due to the price, features, and the best picture I could find in a local store. I use it for gaming and it is absolute joy to play COD4 and soon 5. Blu Ray looks so sweet on my PS3 I wish all TV shows were on blu-ray so I could watch them. I did my test using Ironman in my PS3 and will be buying blu-ray from now on.Things not great about this TV, ah, their are about 5 picture setting that you can tailor 500 different ways. So the functionality is there but if you don't know much about TV select the THX mode which looks awesome 80% of the time, and if you watch a movie just cycle through the 5 different ones for the best picture to you. You do that and there is no need to look at another TV.

The TV is beautiful, very easy to use, and solely responsible for making all of my friends jealous. I researched this TV extensively and found very positive reviews by both professional testers and customers (Cnet, etc.). There are ample inputs / outputs for my needs. The sound has a pretty good range with effective bass. I don't think there is a headphone jack which might matter to some. There is no picture in picture. On the whole I am very satisfied and plan to use the TV mostly with a PS3 for bluray movie watching.[...]

Excellent picture quality in THX mode...I would recommend this TV to anybody that is looking for an high end tv. Very comparable to the Pioneer Kuro, and half the cost.

This is a great panel, couldnt be happier!! Excellent black levels, amazing color accuracy and saturation. Football is lifelike and movies (via an upconverting DVD player) are amazing! Hook up a surround sound system and you will be at the movies every night. Why go to the theater or to a sporting event when you can watch it in "real life" detail at home....

I'd like to start by saying that I am in no way an expert in television reviews but I do like to watch movies and television, so that should account for something. I bought this set because I had read a lot of great reviews about it. And the verdict is.. This T.V. does have a great picture in Hi-Def but the sound quality is not quite as defined as the picture. I have it connected to my stereo receiver so the sound quality is not too much of an issue. Set up (for the t.v.) is simple and the remote works well with my cable box. The manual for the set is easy to read. For this T.V. set, Abes of Maine had the best price I could find at time of purchase. I would buy the T.V. again if I could afford it but I purchased only one.. which is all I need and some popcorn too!!

The set up for this TV was a BREEZE! It is very stylish and looks great. It has a very shiny surface, so I don't know how well it will hold up to dust scratches, etc, but it looks great now. I love the picture and the very easy access to connections. This is a good set and we are very happy with it. I would certainly buy it again.

I did a bunch of research on new TV's and was not quite sure if I wanted a Plasma or LCD. Narrowed my choices down to this Panasonic, a Pioneer, and a Samsung LCD. For the price/performance ratio this thing is awesome! Do not hesitate on purchasing. Hooked up to an HD source and this tv shines. I have already impressed several people with its great picture and color. I am primary using as my main tv, viewing HDTV and Blu-Ray sources. Abes of Maine has the best price period [...]

I have been looking/shopping for a HDTV since they were introduced on the market but there was not enough programing available and the price was too high. Now that Speed Channel is in HD and the prices have come down considerably for a high quality picture, I took the plunge.

I wanted to get one of the best pictures I could afford and with a the great CNET review and price below 2,000, how could I say no. I know the new Pioneer Kuro came out and CNET said its the best picture they have ever seen but I have not seen it in the stores and I'm not willing to pay that much anyhow when this TV provides almost as good a picture but for less than half of the Kuro.

Many of my friends have purchased LCD HDTV's and 2 have picked up the best Samsung but they tell me my picture is better than theirs and it is a great picture.

Bottom line, unless you are a hardcore videophile and you can tell the difference between this set and the Pioneer, this is the TV to get!
