Comments about PIONEER KRP500 50" 1080p plasma HD monitor:
The picture is beautiful right out of the box. There are also tons of adjustments that can be made manually. If you really want the best picture available right now any pioneer KURO will deliver. For absolute perfection have it professionally calibrated. According to Sound+Vision magazine (Oct. 2009) it is well worth it.

Comments about PIONEER KRP500 50" 1080p plasma HD monitor:
The last generation Pioneer plasma and it shows. Probably one of the most difficult scenes for a monitor to reproduce is a black field with point sources of light. Think like a star field. This monitor handles it like a champ and does it in style. The picture is wonderful with one exception. When I look at modern LED LCDs, when they display a pure white field it is positively eye searing. Super bright whites. Using the same source material, I don't get that with this monitor. It may be a setting trying to help prevent burn-in, but I thought it was worth noting.
Other than that, I'm very pleased.
I've put in some marathon sessions already with a few HUD heavy games and haven't seen even a hint of image retention yet. I do use the orbiter, so remember that.
I've watched a couple of blurays and of course the TV is a stunner on any showcase material. Even some of my lame transfers looks solid.
Other notes:
The monitor is really well built. It is a super solid piece of kit. It is also quite heavy and unwieldy. Make sure you have a friend to help you put it up, and make sure to use the handles on the back!
I live in an apartment so I couldn't wall mount it. Instead I bought a Bello FP-8501HG to give that floating look. Looks great and mounts quite easily. The two pieces match very well.
There are a lot of people concerned about the buzzing emitted by the monitor. It is standard fare with plasmas so many people are turned off by that. I think the first time you fire it up and hear it your heart will sink a bit, but once you start watching something you won't notice it anymore. It's essentially white noise that your brain will drown out. Don't let it deter you from making this purchase.
Do recall that this is a monitor and not a TV. It has no tuner, which is no problem for most folks. If you have cable/satellite, you're good to go! Sure you won't get to experience the beauty of over the air, but hopefully the quality of the high end material you do feed it (Bluray) will more than compensate.
Also recall that is has no speaker, just small amps for speakers. I expect if you bought this, you probably have a home theater system of some kind, in which case you're covered!
Last caveat is the absence of a stand. You'll either need to buy the OEM stand, a wall mount, or a stand with a floating mount like I did.

Comments about PIONEER KRP500 50" 1080p plasma HD monitor:
Been waiting to buy a plasma for years even when everyone said that they are dead. I'm fully satisfied to have this TV after owning an LCD with poor viewing angle, poor black levels and motion artifact. Even my wife who could care less about what a pixel is can tell the difference between plasma, LCD, DLP and LED. And THIS plasma is the best that I've seen. I wanted the PRO-111FD, but decided in the end that I wasn't going to use the speakers, tuner or extra HDMIs for >$1000 extra in price. I don't care that my KRP 500M doesn't say "Elite" on the bottom when I know that the screen quality and technology are the same. Will not mount on the wall for now since it looks so good on the pedestal mount (neither included).

Being an owner of a 40" Sony LCD, I am blown away by how much better the picture quality of the KURO is.

I owned the same TV prior to breaking up with my boyfriend and I wanted to replace it but it was a bit pricey at local retails stores [...] and purchased it with a manufacturers warranty. Installed it with a surround sound system -- amazing! I love this TV. I am glad I got the warranty because my other Pioneer was behaving oddly from time to time. It would just go black or it would flash on occasion. Not sure if it was the HDMI cable or the TV so I got the warranty to sleep better at night. I highly recommend this TV ... but I hear Pioneer is no longer in the TV business.

IMHO ... The BEST HDTV ever produced. This Pioneer MONITOR (no speakers or tuner) is equal to the Elite series in nearly every way. Picture is awesome right out of the box from start-up. Plug and play HDMI from my DirecTV HDR tuner and PS3 blu-ray console is simple. Plug-in speakers and you are in video Nirvanna. Blu-ray is physically and emotionally astounding ! OMG ! The picture is liquid, with unbelieveable detail and lighting. It is truly startling to learn that Pioneer is leaving the video business. This is your LAST CHANCE to own Pioneer quality. Don't miss your chance. The BEST simply quits due to the proliferation of LCD's at your local [...]. Sad comment on our lowest-common-denominator society. Maybe Obama can take-over the video business too ... and socialize Pioneer plasma's ... nevermind. Abe's was great. Best price, [...] I succombed to the hard-sell of a 6900 joule power strip and extended warranty (after all ... Pioneer is OUT of video BUSINESS).You will NEVER regret this purchase.Hurry ! Before it is too late
