The camera is great. Very light and very easy to use. The menus can be a bit challenging at first but they are ok once you get used to them.
It works REALLY well with iMovie.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
I use this for everyday filming of my child's development. I love the photo feature...it takes great pics for a video camera. The best thing is how compact it is. I fit it into my DSLR bag as part of my travel kit.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
I love the camera, however, before Windows 7 comes out, it's kind of annoying to play the videos as you have to use the program that comes with it to view them or your editing software to view it.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
I had to buy a whole new Mac to be able to use the features of this camcorder, but it was worth it. It will not operate below system 10.5. I now have a new iMac and an external hard drive to save my cllips.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
Good video quality from this little camcorder.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
This camcorder is easy to use as far as just turning it on and recording. It's small, light, but feels like a quality product. The trade off is that you have to train yourself to quickly use the menus if you want full control. The video quality is stunning (It looks great when hooked up to the new 52" LCD I also got from Abe's :) ), but the still quality is mediocre. I am using the to replace a 10 year-old VHS-C AND a 7 year-old 3MP camera. It's getting the job done very well so far. The supplied software is functional, if not user-friendly. The only real disappointment is the LED flash. It washes out most photos. According to Canon it's only good from 1 to 2 meters.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
Wow! This is an amazing camcorder! I was debating among the Sony, Panasonic and this HF10, and after reading several reviews, I am very happy with my choice. I like the size, weight and the way it looks. I especially like I can easily record without the LCD open and the quick recording resume when the LCD is open. I chose the internal memory because I don't want wife to have to mess with any memory card insertion. The feature that really tipped me over the other models is the "EASY" button. My wife love the EASY button and don't have to worry about other settings...
I don't like the hand-held position as you have to hold the camcorder within 12 inches of your eyes, but with my age, I am having problem focusing on LCD. This makes the hand-held position awkward as you move the camcorder away from you... If you are over 45, then you know what I mean. I also don't like the black shining plastic cover on the LCD screen.. It shows fingerprints and scratches easily...

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
I've owned a compact-VHS camcorder, DVD camcorder, a hard drive camcorder... and now the Canon HD Flash Memory camcorder.
I'm just a home video guy. I'm not making any documentaries or short films.
For me, the most important feature is the video quality. The footage, when shown on my HD tv, is just amazing. The low light quality is better than the other camcorders I've had, but nothing to write home about.
The battery life is a little too short for my taste (about an hour), so I bought another battery.
I wish the camcorder was just a little skinnier so I could more easily carry it in a pocket. But, I imagine that the camera needs to have a large lens to take such great video.
I was disappointed that Canon did not bundle any editing software with the camera. Software that edits HD video (saved as .mts files) is not cheap.
I gave it 4 stars due to the low light quality, the short battery life, the size not being as small as I was looking for, and the lack of bundled editing software.
Still Highly Recommended!

I purchased this camera to capture the exciting moments of my new baby. I couldnt be more pleased. The camera is easy to use, produces high quality video and makes transferring and storing the images a breeze. I highly recommend it.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
I did my research before purchasing and decided on the Canon HF-10. I am not disappointed. Even my wife, who could care less about electronics, said "WOW" when she saw the first video I recorded with it. Crystal clear video, easy to use, and the fact I can take out the SDHC card and pop it in my PS3 to watch the videos makes it VERY convenient. We have 10 month old twin girls and we were able to get some great holiday footage. My wife, who at first said we didn't need to spend the money on this, said it was the best purchase I've made in a long time.
Highly recommend!

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
The Canon Vixia-HF10 gives me exactly what I was looking for in an HD camcorder! After I received it, we got lots of snow; so my first recordings were video of playing in the snow, capturing the huge flakes coming down, and the snow covered surroundings. I took short clips followed by inside shots of the fire in the fireplace and others sipping Hot Chocolate. The sound was clear and the HD video was even better than I had hoped for. The camcorder was intuitive to use (with a few glances through the manual before shooting). The EASY mode works great and the other settings give me something to experiment with for a long time. Make sure that you have equipment that can read/write to the SDHC format.
Abe's delivered it to me in the time frame I expected and they were very helpful on the phone. I am VERY pleased with my new Canon HF10 Camcorder and I will purchase more from Abe's of Maine in the future.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
Despite the standard camcorder layout, however, the HF10 feels more comfortable to use than the other similarly styled models on test, even though it’s far from the smallest around.
The body is molded to fit the hand, and while some of the smaller cameras this month fail to fill the palm comfortably, the HF10’s recording button and tactile zoom control fall naturally under the thumb and index finger.
A mode dial can also be easily spun with the thumb, switching between video, photograph and their respective playback modes. Only the Power button is slightly out of reach, although this does help you avoid pressing it by accident.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
I've read some reviews of this camcorder before I purchased it and I have to confirm that this camcorder has a great picture quality. I'm impressed with it.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
The software that comes with the camcorder is not intuitive. I have not spent a lot of time with it yet but usually I can just play with software for a bit and can get it to work well. I have not found out how to edit the movies nor easily add/remove sound and video. I have not yet read the 100+ pages of instructions so maybe it is all explained in there.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
This camcorder does a great job with both the picture and sound. I love the size and the quick boot up time is a huge positive for capturing events. The internal memory is a very nice plus with an easy to use interface for moving recording to the SDCard. The user interface is easy to use and the preset video settings are nice for the causal user (indoor, snow, outdoor, etc.). The only downside is the battery life...the included battery will only give you 40 - 50mins of record time. The other negative is that when I used the extended battery it does not show the charge level on screen.
Overall I would recommed this to anyone looking to get a reasonable HD camcorder with a small formfactor.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
Small and light, great for travel. Home video a must have. I've had many camcorders before but this one is one of the best. Compared it to the Sony and Canon color is much more vivid and livelier than that of Sony which is more dull and lifeless.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
Good features for a low price, compact enough to carry around as a digital camera as well as a camcorder. Excellent stills & video. Many shooting modes and effects. Only thing not too great about it was the standard battery that comes with it, to get longer runtime, you need to get an additional battery.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
Incredibly slow in-camera charging at [$]price-point? A short battery-life of 60 minutes at best? External charger a $70 accessory? This is a critical component of any camera, and Canon falls way short here. HD picture quality is nice, form-factor is nice, overall nice camera, with great optics. But think twice before about any good deals you find on this because it doesn't include and external charger, battery has to be charged in camera which is incredibly slow and inconvenient. Luckily they do make an external charger which is faster, but it is expensive.!Take into consideration that this camera has a couple of accessories you will need to get:1) extra battery approximately 60 dollars2) external charger approximately 70 dollars3) sdhc memory card approximately 70 dollarsSo try and get this camera for as low a price as you can and be prepared to add some money to that price. Not sure what canon was thinking with the battery design on this camera, but it clearly falls short. Doesn't last long (60 minutes if you are lucky), and then charging is incredibly slow and inconvenient in-camera. I can understand a battery being an accessory, but the external charged should be included. Although the camera might be nice, it's quite useless without good power and overall battery implementation, because when it is sitting on the counter-top moonlighting as a charger instead of a camera you might miss that precious moment. Sorry Canon you missed the mark here in a critical area.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
I have only had it 3 weeks but it's very easy to operate. It takes great pictures. Very easy to transfer to a MacBook and iMovie. So it's very easy to edit out what you don't need. The controls are all in one place. You will need an extra battery since battery life is a little over an hour.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
Phenomenal picture quality! Light metering is very accurate, and easily adjustable. We video our grand-kids and the kids my wife teaches. I can quickly switch from HD video to 10 mega-pixel photos and back again. It has a close-focus capability, not macro but almost. I like to video insects and other small things. I find the controls easy to use. For quick takes there is an "easy" button that resets all controls to a basic setting. Only drawback is that you need a special card reader for the 16 gigabyte cards. But that's minor compared to all the great features! The computer software for editing works very well!
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
While there is much to love about this camera, it is VERY small, hard to hold still, and very difficult for large hands to operate. The semi-recessed power button often requires 2-3 tries before it can be successfully depressed, while the poorly sited and protruding "Record" button is too easily tripped by accident. All of the function buttons arrayed across the bottom of the screen and the power button require precise hits with a fingernail in order to operate them, a real trick for a large hand and short nails.
You WILL need a tripod when using this camera, as it is so lightweight and small that it is difficult to hold steady during freehand use.
While overall the manual is fairly well-done and well-organized, there are functions and adjustments which are never adequately described (the audio functions, for instance), and one is sometimes left to figure things out by trial & error.
The lack of a viewfinder can loom large at times when having a bright glaring screen is inappropriate.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
Camcorder video quality is awesome. Downloading the video from this camcorder is not intuitive. Does take a bit getting used to it. But once I get used to it -- should be cake. Love the size and that it takes SDHD cards. I am used to using larger displays so this one will take some time to get used to it.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
I find the camera to be easy to operate and handle. It has all the features I need for my home and travel videos.I find the built in 16GB memory card with the option to insert additional SDHC cards a real plus. I know too many people that have had a built in hard drive only to have the hard drive go bad and render the camera inoperable.[...]
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
Very happy with this purchase. Small size--almost fits in baggy pocket. 2 hours of HD recording onboard is plenty between dumps to hard drive. A battery lasts just over an hour as advertised. Best HD outdoors, stunning. Fireworks mode surprised me how blacks stayed black. AVCHD software that comes with works for storage and burning discs. Pretty cool you can burn a AVCHD disc to a DVD-R and play HD on your PS3. (No blue ray burner needed to watch HD) Waiting for Adobe to get a AVCHD solution for editing though. Tough choice between this and the Sony, I was happy with Cannon though.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF-10 Flash Memory Camcorder:
This camera compatibility with Mac's is super frustrating. There is virtually no support through Canon if you are using a Mac computer. The images are great, but when they are saved and converted as quicktimes in Final Cut Pro they expand to almost unusable sizes. One hour is 40 gigs of footage once converted. At this rate I am going to need my own 10 TB server for my home videos.
