Great for recording the family events you don't want to forget. Outdoor video is very good in good lighting conditions. Low light and indoor video is not the greatest, but the addition of the built in camera light makes this less of a problem compared to older models. If you don't mind turning on lights indoors or a small amount of graining this is a good camera for the casual user. The editing software is dificult for everything except getting the videos off the camera. I recommend Nero Vision for all editing.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF20 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:
I do a good deal of HD video work, I've used a wide array of cameras. I bought this camera for home movie and web podcasting use mainly. I was very impressed with the quality, It is very compact, simple to use & I find the picture is slightly better than my HV30. I would even consider using this along side the Canon H1 A1 for multi cam shoots. The only downside is the battery life isn't so great so it might be a good to get a 2nd battery backup.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF20 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:
Shoot mostly sports and family events inside. Playing back movies shows lighting was adequate.

I used this product for traveling (very handy). Its simple to use but battery doesn't last long. Except battery life its a great buy.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF20 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:
Just under one month,I am using this ...gr8 and easy to operate.
Did not burn Dvd yet ..
Quality is very nice, Direct connected to HD TV via HDMI
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF20 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:
It was easy to get started using this camcorder and the quality of the recording is great. Using the tripod ensures steady filming; but the stabilization does a nice job of keeping the picture still.

This is a great product that I would recommend to anyone...
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF20 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:
Like the camera lot but the low light issues and the extremely poor HD editing software makes this a 4 stars out of 5 camera.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF20 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:
I purchased this camcorder for my wife to record scouting events. She hasn't even held if yet because she can't pry it out of my hands. I got the wide angle lens with it and wow, I can record action in the entire room while everyone was wildly opening Christmas gifts and not have to pan around. The face recognition feature is just sick. Everything auto-adjusts in the blink of an eye. One last thing - BUY THIS CAMERA!
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF20 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:
Small size and video quality make it light years better than my old digital 8.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF20 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:
I bought this camera for documenting some global traveling I'm doing. It's working great for this use. It's lightweight, easy to operate, starts up quickly and the picture quality is impeccable.
The built-in microphone doesn't allow for the best sound, but for the size, prize and portability of this camera, you cannot complain. It does feature inputs if you wanna hook up a mic for better sound.
The 32 Gb internal harddrive allows for quick saving of shots, quick access to these shots and for long, loong recording times in standard definition - over 9 hrs. Try that with a DV cam! If you wanna record in 720p, then that's cool too - 5 hrs or so. Full HD? No problem - 2.5 hrs.
All in all, this is a terrific little power-punch of a camera, for not the worst price. I've always bought Canon for all my cameras (D-SLR's, compact digi-cams, etc), and it has never failed me. I would highly recommend the VIXIA HF20 to anyone looking for a ultra-portable, high quality camcorder for a reasonable price.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF20 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:
I use the HF20 to video many things. I especially use it to video my hobbies as well as people singing my compositions that I have shown on YouTube. The clarity of the videos is outstanding and the choice of different digital effects makes it very interesting to use. I almost always use the highest video settings for the highest clarity. This reduces the built in memory time, but I'll sacrifice the time for the quality. The only con is the short battery life, but I always have a freshly charged battery on hand so it's not a problem.

This camcorder is great! Just shot my daughter's orchestra, and am about to do the same for my son's martial arts test. Easy to use, but sometimes hard to reach the controls since the unit is very small. It was also easy to transfer the footage to the Mac for editing. I love Canon equipment, and this unit seems to be no exception,
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF20 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:
I recorded a volleyball game the other day in a gym with okay lighting and the quality of the recording was great. No low lighting issues, even though the lighting in the gym was not the best. I've had two other camcorders, including a luggable that had to be held on your shoulder...and this one is by far the best. The menus are fine, it just takes a bit to dig into them, but I literally set one or two settings and was up and running right after charging the battery. [...] The original battery failed after one charge. I tried multiple times and multiple ways to charge it. I thought it might be the camcorder itself, so I bought another Canon battery and charged it; so it's not the camcorder. [...]

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF20 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:
While the overall picture quality is good, the playback quality has a very annoying feature: you cannot disable the display of persistent "pause with (fast forward/rewind) arrows" icons on ALL recordings. I do not understand the point of displaying those icons on your recordings that are obvious and available on all playback equipment, such as DVD players?
This feature should be able to be disabled within the options menu and/or DISP button, but unfortunately this is not the case.
Now I'm stuck trying to see if I can find editing software that can remove that annoying display on all recordings.

I brought it as a gift for my brother. [...] I am very satisfied this purchase. After my brother's 2 weeks test, this camcorder works great, high video quality, easy to control, light weight. But, the battery is not good, it lost power even if the camcorder is not used. My brother said it lost about 20 minutes in 10 days.
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF20 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:
EASY TO USE WITH MAC. New Camcorder for family vacation to Hawaii. The HD recording was incredible!!! I used several SD cards with 16gb memory to document our vacation. The optic zoom took care of the surfing lessons, as well as the parasailing, and with diving (optional accessory.) My boys had an incredible vacation and it is documented on 4-16gb of memory cards (didn't use internal)... edited to 4gb for burn to dvd. THIS CAMCORDER IS THE BOMB! I would recommend this camera to any user!
Comments about Canon VIXIA HF20 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:
Wonderful for my vacation. The optical zoom was beyond belief. I zoomed in by 2000 yards to capture the FACE of my son surfing! Editing in I-Movie was very easy. I used (4) 16gb SD cards for 10 days of vacation... edited down to 1 DVD for the family. Very easy to setup and edit. I wish this camera would have been available 5 years ago!

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF20 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:
Video quality is great. The files are huge after you convert them to quicktimes, so you'll need a big external drive. I did a few edits in FCP and it worked fine.

Two mounts ago I was asked if I would video the 2009 Senior Follies as a volunteer and I agreed. The county supplied the camera. It was a Panasonic low-end camera. I took it home to get familiar with it. It took a mini disk. After trying it out I said to my wife, " this is going to do nothing but make me look bad".
There I was filming the show, twenty minuets later I had to flip the disk. I lost six minuets; after it started back up I no longer had control over the functions. I filmed long enough to finish one performance. I decided to restart it that took three more minuets, to load, had my functions back but missed a performance. The rest went all right but low quality recording.
I am a master craftsman of thirty years and I must have quality tools in my hands to produce the fine craft that I demand. I found it!! The Canon VIXIA Dual Flash Memory Camcorder. This feels so good in my hands. It reeks with quality. It has excided my expatiations. No disk. If you have it near you and see something you need to capture grab it and no sooner than you have it in your hands push the power button and its ready Three seconds ahead of you. That is fantastic!
Plenty of memory you couldn't need more. I keep it with me. I am involved with the Senior Center Line Dance Group. I am all ways filming the dancers where ever the go.
I recently played my videos at a gathering and they were all amazed at the quality and the editing. I am so pleased with this camera I can't say enough.
I have not found any cons as of yet. Maybe the price, but I have owned Canon SLR Cameras for thirty-five years and have yet to find a cheep one, and I would never expect to. But have never been let down on quality and performance.
I would recommend this camera to any one who demands the fine workman ship as I do.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF20 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:
[...]Secondly, about this product. Filled with cool features, and video quality is great. The software included with this for mixing the videos some times just hangs. My greatest concerns is the low light video. There is a lot of grain for low light videos which is unacceptable for such a high priced consumer camcorder.Otherwise I just love it. Also, you will need a very steady hand while recording otherwise videos will be of no use.
