Comments about Canon VIXIA HV40 High Definition Camcorder with Native 24p Mode:

The built in mic leaves something to be desired, but so don't they all, so can't really fault it for that.

All in all it met all my requirements for a personal camcorder that was both compact and light to carry...

Comments about Canon VIXIA HV40 High Definition Camcorder with Native 24p Mode:

The picture quality of the video is awesome but the mic is very poor. Way too much external soundcomes through. The viewfinder doesn't extend out so with a 4 hour battery your eye doesn't touch the viewfinder. Seems to me some designer who actually uses the camcorder would see that. I am having a very hard time getting any of my editing software to work with this. I wish i had not bought it.

This camerra is awsome, I did my research and decided on this one. Abe's of Main had the lowest price anywhere including online. Got some great deals on the wide angle lens as well. The cammera performes flawlessly. Lots of settings to play with, but most importanly the picture quality is AMAZING. I'm taking a video edditng class and it comes in handy for my projects. It's light, sexy and easy to use while recording in HD profesional picture quality. I highly recomend this product if you are concidering getting it. YOU WONT REGRET IT.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HV40 High Definition Camcorder with Native 24p Mode:

My first camcorder was an Hi 8 Panasonic and I fell in love with it, but when I got to use HV30, I knew that it only gets better. Now that there is the new addition to the Canon Vixia HV family, I knew that I had to invest in it. I used one for a Video Editing course and I just adored the richness and vibrancy of the colors and the picture with the edited product. If you have used Canon Vixia HV camcorder, this should not be too difficult to get around with, but even if you don't, it's pretty simple enough plus there's a guide to help you navigate through the camcorder. It comes with the basic input output wires you can think of, but no firewire. Firewire is still a trickle in comparison to the pros for this camcorder. Buy it; love it!

Better Auto and Manual Focus than HV20
By Kobe CharlieVerified Purchaser from Kobe, Japan on 12/23/2009
Pros:
Easy To Use, Fast Auto Focus, Improves Performance, Viewfinder
Cons:
Compact Like Most Others
Best Uses:
Shooting Outdoors, Travel
Describe Yourself:
Wild Bird Video Photo Guy
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Canon VIXIA HV40 High Definition Camcorder with Native 24p Mode:

I regularly spend time outdoors video recording wild birds. Many amateur camcorders have removed the eyepiece, used for finding and focusing on birds, but not the HV40. The flip-out LCD screen may be OK for indoors but not in bright sunlight and finding far off objects in telephoto mode, IMO. This model is one of the last higher-end camcorders to continue to use mini DV tapes and records in HDV not AVCHD, a possible concern for semi-pros. The HV40 has generous manual adjustments so only avid photographers will likely use them, like altering aperture (depth of field) and speed (good for fast sports). I've only been using the HV40 for about two weeks, but I've found that both the manual and the auto focus has been improved over the HV20, so I can add precious seconds to recording bird movements. The HV20 has held up well for me with over 1 1/2 years of almost weekly use, including some hard hiking. I'm hopeful the HV40 has maintained this level of durability. I can imagine that people with big hands and fingers would need more patience when pushing buttons or turning the controls, like the manual focus, because of this camera's compactness. I added an external mic for better audio recording than the built-in, top-facing, internal microphones. I've only infrequently shot with the HV20 and HV40 indoors, seemed OK, so I really can't offer an opinion about the indoor capabilities of these camcorders.

What a great product! The camera is easy to use, and I love that it shoots in wide screen. It works well under low light conditions, it's light and easy to carry, and having the viewing screen makes the camera more versatile. I'm very happy with my digital camcorder.
