Comments about JVC GZ-HD300 60GB Hard Disk Digital Camcorder - Red (Shown in Black):

It is small and easy to carry around. I played with it briefly to tape a in door event. The video quality is acceptable. However it is not as good as my Sony HDR-SR1, which I used at the same time. The low light quality is not as good. The image stabilizer is also lacking. The laser touch control take a little time to get used to. It is nice that it also has menu in Chinese. This is one of the reason that I bought it.[...]

Comments about JVC GZ-HD300 60GB Hard Disk Digital Camcorder - Red (Shown in Black):

I bought this camera to use for combination inside and outside home movies.

Inside use is atrocious. Poor Low light performance renders this camera virtually unusable inside unless you have studio style lighting or at the very least lots bright lights scattered around the room.

Slow focus was a big issue everyone was talking about when I read up on this camera. After using for a week or two you can really start to notice. Though this is sometimes a problem, for most of the time its not.

Still image quality is comparable to my first gen iPhone. Not the greatest but it will do in a pinch.

Easy to use controls were refreshing but it will take a good hour or so to get fully comfortable with the "Laser" touch system. Menus were well thought out.

Small form factor is both a plus and a minus. While a small form makes this camera easy to tote around with you, it will also make your video very (VERY) shaky. There is image stabilization but turning this on has twice produced a video in which it was noticeable that a couple of frames were "dropped" from recording/playback.

This camera excels in sunny, outside conditions. Colors were crisp and clear. Wind noise has not yet been an issue for me and there is a built in menu option that allows you to "reduce" wind noise.

Conclusion:

I wont recommend this camera for little johnny's first steps but if your headed on vacation and want to go sight seeing this may be an option, at least until you can afford the next level of camera.

My wife found it easy to operate and will show me how to use it soon. She did have a bit of a problem with the directions on computer CD storage of your videos. This would not be enough to discourage me from buying the product. Abe's of Maine made the buying process easy and had a great price on the camera. The sales associate was well versed about the product and directed me to some "camera needs" that I would normally not be aware of. I would look to Abe's in the future for my electronic needs.

Comments about JVC GZ-HD300 60GB Hard Disk Digital Camcorder - Red (Shown in Black):

I bought this camera as a gift for my 19 year old daughter. She's always been interested in photography, and this camera is perfect for her. It's small enough to take on trips, but has great HD quality for its size and price. It integrated seamlessly with our iMacs and MacBooks for easy editing. We are very happy with this HD camera. You need to buy a spare battery. Beware, the ultra long battery size makes it stick out over one inch from the back of the camera. This is a cosmetic issue, not operational.
