Love the small size of the camera and the HD quality recording. SD cards make digital editing a snap. Best HD camcorder for the price in my research. Have shot several events for my kids and it is easy to use. Good sound recording of marching band with on board mic.
Small buttons make operation sometimes difficult. I have been only using with tripod with very good results.
Spend the extra money and get an HD-capable camcorder. The other models I evaluated had picture quality inferior to this Sony.

I am upgrading from a old video camera with a tape. We figured if we are going to spend the money, might as well get HD! I wanted it before my sons football season. The video quality is AMAZING!!We bought a mini HDMI cable and hooked it up to our HDTV, it was amazing!! We just kept the battery it came with (not recommended). So far it works for about an hour or so. If you are going to use it for much longer without being able to charge, I would buy an extended battery. We haven't had the time to explore the endless features, but the camera is awesome for the price we got it for!! So very happy!

The picture quality for the size of the unit is excellent.
The size of the camera makes it almost perfect for this particular application.

I love this camcoder and in particular the zoom clarity is excellent and image isn't shaky at maximum zoom. I havent tried in low light but outdoor is extremely catchy. Great product to own.

When recording footage outdoors, the lcd image is practically invisible. A viewfinder would be very helpful.

Im coming from a Canon Mini DV camcorder that I was happy with its qualties..But I broke it. The Sony replacement is about what I paid for the Old DV camcorder years ago. (This is great)It has much better picture Quality (HD), Good Sound.Good Zoom, Low light performance is "almost" as good as the old Canon.The Old camera was real Good. Low lite is little grainey compaired to the HD in daylight. I guiess kinda Like Stand Deff in low light. This is acceptable to me (Family movies, B-days ect)] The Bad...This thing is soooo small!! To small for large hands. I have trouble using the record and zoom controls on the body. Im using the touch screen more and more. (Two hands like 15 years ago with the big camcorders) The image stablazition is marginal at mid zoom and poor at full zoom. A mono pod is in order. (should look real funny with this little camera on it) The data transfur direct to a hard drive is great! The software to Burn DVD's is good (simple) great for my use. Anyone that does this as a hobbie will forget about the software (almost no edit capabilty). Great camcorder for the price [$] HD picture quality is stunning !!! I can live with the quirks for the price.

I am very impressed with this camera so far. The picture quality is amazing and the camera is so small. The Battery life seems fine to me. I bought a 16GB memory card that will hold approx 90mins of full HD shooting and about 3 - 4 times that amount if you shoot traditional standard. The only thing I don't like is not seeing a running total of how much video that have taken. The PMD included software seems ok but I have yet to convert anything to a DVD. I have Windows and MAC pcs so it would be nice if the software would work on a MAC without having to convert the files to MPEG first.

I wanted a camcorder for my wife & daughter to use on a trip to Spain. Detail was important, especially for the architecture, so I decided HD was in order. Well, after being frustrated by prices, I found this model which had rave reviews. Let me chime in - the video is stunning! I can't believe the quality from this tiny unit. I've been playing with it for a week, and I'm still discovering menu features; I find the touch-menu pretty easy to use. A remote would be nice, but keeping this video quality in its price range is important. There is nothing that I would consider a drawback for exactly that reason. Now, if only SD cards would take a big plunge in price! A 4GB card will give you just under an hour in HD. Overall, I am very pleased with this unit.
