Very useful for family events and traveling. I purchased mine to capture all the moments of my newborn and have not been disappointed.
My only gripe has been with settingup the GPS. Use of the GPS requires that you step outside for geo-tagging of your media to work. While this makes sense, it would have been appreciated that this be stated during the initial in-camera setup.

Excellent HD Camcorder
Comments about Sony HDR-CX350V 32GB HD Camcorder:
First camcorder I have ever owned. Did alot of research and this was the camera that best fit my requirements. I am not at all disappointed in any way. It wasn't the cheapest, but it was well worth the price I paid for it. All of the technical enhancements of this camcorder make it a treat to use.

Awesome video quality
Comments about Sony HDR-CX350V 32GB HD Camcorder:
I primarily use this camcoder to record my children's stage programs. I owned a miniDV sony camcoder - its quality wasn't very good. But with the HDR-CX350V the video quality is excellent. First time when I took the video I put it in auto mode, then the faces where not very recognizable in bright stage shows. I read up on it and they had recommended using spotlight mode for recording stage shows. In this mode, you can get good video with clear focus on faces. The difference between old camcorder and new is significant.

Camera will take some getting used to...especially menu functions. But once you use it for a while it is great!

Comments about Sony HDR-CX350V 32GB HD Camcorder:
I've struggled to get crisp & clear video in the low light environment where I record stock car races with other camcorders. This one does a phenomenal job...just switch it to the low light condition setting...and it's amazing! Zoom is incredible and the picture is very sharp. LOVE it!

Recording status is poorly visible on the sun. But it is great for travel!
Comments about Sony HDR-CX350V 32GB HD Camcorder:
Very happy with the Sony CX350...although I don't have much to compare it to. This camera is very easy to operate and has wonderful picture quality. I would recommended it to any casual user that wants great videos. Also very impressed with Abe's of Maine and their customer service department!!!

Comments about Sony HDR-CX350V 32GB HD Camcorder:
This is a very good camcorder comparable to the Canon Vixia lines. I compared this Camcorder to the Vixia M31 and found I preferred this one. It has a very good zoom, and the steady shot works extremely well.
Pros:
- Easy to use, has several manual settings, but for the most part is very straight forward, has basic and also more advanced menus, all accessible though the touch screen. My 11 and 7 year old can figure out how to use it.
- 32gb of memory, you can also add additional SDHC cards, 16GB class 6 Adata works well with this camera.
- I like this camera because it can do SD as well as HD. IT could provide a way to get into HD video if you do not have a system ready for it.
- Excellent low light performance has a 3 lux rating, most cameras are a 12 lux. Takes very good indoor footage without a light.
- Built in flash for still. (flash does not operate while taking videos, but you can still take still pics while recording video).
- Small size, I have DLSR lenses which are smaller than this camera.
- Great optics, the optical zoom is 12x, plus the digital zoom can go to 177x although it has a lot of noise in dark situations.
- Fast auto focus, stays in focus throughout the entire optical zoom range and does not seem to have any issues with focusing on the wrong subject, can be set to different metering.
- Included software with allow burning to DVD, most camcorders such as Canon requires you to buy some other software to do this. Sony also makes a burning station that will allow you to burn directly off the disc.
- Included battery will last about 2 hours-2.5 hours.
- Sony sells a cable to allow this camcorder to copy videos off to an external USB harddrive without the use of a PC.
- Highlight feature, the camcorder can group a series of videos, and create short clips with parts of each short clip with music, and play as a combined video right off the camera.
Cons:
- Expensive, considering there are camcorders that can do HD in the $300-$400 range, they are not the same quality of this camera. This camera is better in low light, longer battery, better steady shot, all around a very good camera despite the price.
- Expensive batteries, you can expect to pay at least $70 for another battery but if you get the NP-FV70 (larger than the included battery) you get get 4hours and 20 minutes.
- No optical viewfinder, would have been add-on for bright locations. Although the screen is still very bright.
Overall I recommend this camcorder on the basis of excellent video quality, low light ability, compact size, steady shot, battery life, and ease of use. It should provide years of good video.
