I am the owner of a small production company, specializing in weddings. I typically shoot weddings with two manned camcorders and one unmanned. I use the HC-9 as the unmanned camera now. It produces a clear picture with decent audio. One of the reasons I purchased it is that it can shoot in SD or HD. It is my "transition" cam, from my current SD cams to the HD cams I plan to purchase in the near future. It's a great little cam.

I wanted a small compact camcorder to put in a small pack whilehiking and biking. This camcorder has fulfilled this purpose.It fits nicely in a handle bar pack on a bike.Also wanted a camcorder that would play my old mini DV's and record HDV. [...] it is small and compact. Excellent battery life also backward compatible to mini DVD's. Good sound and hot shoe for external mike.Cons - slow focusing. No manual control on the zoom. I had to use a Sony memory card. The sand disks would not work. All in all, a decent camcorder for its purpose.

I use this camera as a B-Roll camera, for those shots where you need a very small camera, such as on a car dash, in a cabinet looking out, etc. Also fun for Behind the scenes shots, and great for grabing for home movies. Great picture quality, and it still shoots on inexpensive Mini DV tape!

We use as a car camera with a suction cup mount for a car show. Camera works great. Recommend a wide angle lens and extra battery. Not true HD which is a drawback but still a great camera for HDV quality. Edits great with a Z1.

shutter speed slow compared to my other sony camera (not a movie camera) other than that I'm very pleased with it.
