I have never owned a camcorder before, know little about how to use them and wanted something simple, easy to use right out of the box and this camcorder is that. I know it has lots of features that I will learn to use but for now it does the job of videoing dog agility training classes and does a great job with the most inexperienced people using it.

This is my first HD video camera and I did a lot of research before pulling the trigger. I ultimately chose the Sony HDR-XR200V because it offered a variety of great features with a 120GB hard drive. The ability to hold a lot of HD video on the camera was a huge plus for me.
I have had the camera for about a month now and have used it to take home videos of my 4 month-old daughter. It is very quick to power up and start recording so you don't miss any action. The picture quality is great and the stabilizing feature is great to compensate if you have shaky hands. In addition, it recognizes facial features and snaps photos while you're recording if it senses a good facial shot or if someone is smiling. The highlight reel feature is cool as well, taking snipits of your recording and putting them to music automatically for instant playback.
I haven't even cracked the manual yet, so I'm guessing there are all sorts of cool features I don't even know about. As far as a great and easy-to-use HD video camera for home use, this is the perfect camera for you. And of course the Abe's price was well below everyone else's. Abe's recommends getting a backup battery and I do as well. The one it comes with lasts less than an hour in most cases.

Pros:
Bought this camera for my wife to follow around our baby. It looks great indoors and out. GPS works, but we still aren't sure what the point of having it is. Sound quality is surprisingly good. You really have to hold the camera steady and not move your hands during filming if you want the sound to be clear, otherwise you get the motion sounds. Image stabilization is amazing with this camera. Still image camera works during video capture, which is pretty nice. Still image camera does have the most megapixels, but the included flash works well in any light so the pictures are comparable to my 12.1MP camera once you rescale to fit on a PC screen. In short, my wife loves it, it does exactly what we wanted, and available accessories really can make it work even better (although they aren't cheap).
Cons:
Bundled software is not the best and upgrading to professional software is recommended for serious editing. I just want to copy off a video and make a DVD to send to family. That's all the functionality I really needed, which can be done.
You really need the neutral density filter to improve the quality indoors. It really should have come with the camera, but oh well, ~$20 more.
Lack of the miniHDMI-to-HDMI cable is kind of annoying. Paying this much and Sony can't include a cable?

I have had a wide range of Sony Video Cameras. This one is a nice balance between the too simple and the too complex. It's easy to figure out teh controls, downloading and burning pics and videos is easy, too. If I had to pick one weakness, it would be the "lower res" stills. My old Sony camera takes higher res pics. But this is a video camera and the video quality is excellent!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! GREAT CAMERA FOR THE PRICE. Abe's is really the place to get it, too!!!!
